Headed to Palm Springs? If so, make a stop at one of the most fun roadside attractions in the country - The Cabazon Dinosaurs!
Established in 1965 and made famous in the film "Pee Wee's Big Adventure," the attraction is free to park at, it's free to take pictures with Mr. Rex, and it's free to go to the gift shop inside(!) of Dinny The Dinousaur.
Going inside Dinney's Gift Shop is a must-do. Not just because it's cool to be inside the dino structure, but also because you can read about the history of the Cabazon Dinosaurs. Like, for you Knott's Berry Farm fans, did you know the dinos were created by Claude Bell, the same artist who made many of the cowboy/girl statues inside of Knott's?
You can also pay to visit The Dinosaur Adventure - more dinos, another museum, a dino dig for kids...but the best part is, if you can climb a narrow winding staircase, you can climb into Mr. Rex's mouth!
It's a great free (or cheap) stop and if you're lucky, the Wafflesaurus Ice Cream truck from @sweetosaur might also be there.
